RSS Based Daily Newspaper

I’ve long felt that using RSS is only half the battle. Subscribing to RSS feeds generally avoids irrelevant content¹ and the attention parasitism of Big Tech recommendation engines, but there is one other issue: intermittent rewards.

Since new items can be published at any point, refreshing comes tied to a randomized reward,² and like the good ~~monkey~~ mouse that I am, I keep pulling the leaver.

There seems to be an obvious solution to this. At the cost of some immediacy of delivery, delaying items and only showing them all at once at specific times. For example, imagine if each day, at 08:00 all new items from the previous 24 hours arrive in your reader, an experience much more like reading the paper in pre-digital times.

This is a collection of Firefox tweaks I have found to be useful.

Accessing `about:config`

On desktop OSes enter about:config in the url bar.
On Android:
- Nightly and Beta: Enter about:config in the url bar.
- Stable: Enter chrome://geckoview/content/config.xhtml in the url bar.

`browser.urlbar.trimURLs=false`

Prevent Firefox from hiding the scheme (eg. https:// in the url bar). It is shown when you click the url bar anyways, and this prevents the text from shifting when you click the url bar. Especially useful if your frequently change a subdomain on a url, such as going from Reddit to old Reddit.

Hello.

I’m starting this blog as a place to write my thoughts about whatever I find interesting.

Why? Because to write is to think and all the deadlines of school life that forced me to write—to think—have vanished from my life.

I haven’t ever written without an external deadline so it will be interesting to see how it goes.
